Breadcrumbs
Do you remember the tale of Hansel and Gretel? This gruesome story by the Brothers Grimm about the brother and sister lost and abandoned deep in a forest? Gretel suggests leaving breadcrumbs as a way of leaving a trail to help them to find their way.
One of my strengths (CliftonStrengths) is Maximizer, and it gives me a focus on wanting to build something great from strong. In working with my colleagues and team members, I know that I have a depth of experiences they don’t yet have in life that I think may be useful to share.
I have had multiple careers in different industries, living and working in four countries. My journey has taken me on a path that I could never have predicted, and I’m also not yet sure where my next adventure will be.
One of the things that I think is important for me to share is the details of the path I have taken and continue to follow to leave a knowledge trail. Not because you should follow me, but because of the things I have learned that might save you from wasting time, a detour, or taking a wrong turn.
So, I will try to leave the details of people, experiences, and sources of knowledge that meant something to me if they prove helpful to you.
Regular inspiration
Arthur C. Brooks writing on happiness in The Atlantic. I have been delighted and inspired by his writing, and I’ve just started listening to his How to build a happy life podcast.
Farnam Street Blog and The Knowledge Project Podcast. I am a member and there are substantial resources available. If you only use one resource, this is the one.
Guy Kawasaki, Remarkable People podcast. Be forewarned - listening to this podcast may inspire you to purchase his guest’s books on an almost weekly basis.
Dense Discovery newsletter. This newsletter has content that regularly inspires me, and I get so much from this that I became a friend of Dense Discovery.
If I could only recommend one resource to you, Seth Godin would be it. I devour his blogging, podcasts, training course, and books, and I have purchased more of his books than any other author (although George R. R. Martin is a close second).
Self education, Masterclass and 42 Courses are incredible sources of knowledge to deepen your understanding and improve your skills.
For marketers devour everything Mark Ritson, Drayton Bird, Giles Edwards, WARC, Cannes Lions, Marketing Week, Oystercatchers, and Rory Sutherland. You should also take advantage of the Salesforce Marketing resources on Trailblazer (profile link).
